Newcastle eye Chelsea's Axel Disasi as Marc Guehi alternative
Are we to assume that Joachim Andersen’s impending move to Fulham means that Marc Guehi will be staying at Selhurst Park this summer after all?
Newcastle have seen four bids for the England centre-back already rebuffed by Crystal Palace, who are said to value him at up to £70m.
The Magpies were understood to be mulling over a fifth offer for Guehi, though The Athletic report tonight that they are now working on alternatives including Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.

Fulham strike Joachim Andersen deal with Crystal Palace
Fulham are closing in on a deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen, reports suggest.
The Cottagers had already seen multiple bids for the Danish international rebuffed by their London rivals in recent weeks.
But now they have reached an agreement in principle with Palace on a deal for Andersen worth £30m plus add-ons, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
It’s a coup for Fulham, who needed further defensive reinforcements before next week’s transfer deadline after losing the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream this summer.
At the start of the month, they signed centre-back Jorge Cuenca from Villarreal for £6.7m, with Aston Villa’s Diego Carlos also a key target.

Raheem Sterling omitted from Chelsea squad again
Raheem Sterling is among the players omitted from Chelsea’s initial squad list for their Uefa Conference League play-off meeting with Servette this week.
The Blues welcome the Swiss side to Stamford Bridge on Thursday night for the opening instalment of a two-game tie that will determine who progresses through to the group stage in European football’s tertiary club competition.
Chelsea’s 21-man squad ‘A’ list for that match has now been confirmed on the official Uefa Conference League website, with Sterling among the most high-profile omissions - as also reported by both the BBC and Sky Sports.

Arsenal to host Real Sociedad chief for Mikel Merino talks
We may finally be reaching the end game in terms of the long-running Mikel Merino to Arsenal transfer saga.
The Gunners have been in negotiations for some time with Real Sociedad as they seek to strike an agreement for Spain’s Euro 2024-winning midfielder.
Further talks were known to be planned for this week, with Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo now reporting that Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has travelled to London.
He is said to be now looking for a fee of around €40m for Merino, with Arsenal’s original offer of €30m plus a further €5m in add-ons rejected.

Chelsea striker Armando Broja set for Ipswich move
Chelsea’s late summer clear-out is continuing with Armando Broja.
The Albanian striker has been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge having failed to impress during a hugely disappointing loan spell at Fulham in the second half of last season.
Broja is now set to go out on loan again, this time to newly-promoted Ipswich.
The East Anglian Daily Times report that a deal to take the 22-year-old to Portman Road for the season has now been agreed and could be announced in the next 24 hours.
Broja is expected to begin his medical tonight, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the two clubs will agree on a £30m obligation to buy clause that will be activated if Ipswich avoid relegation this season.

Man United exploring two Manuel Ugarte transfer options
Manchester United appear determined to sign Manuel Ugarte before next week’s transfer deadline.
The Uruguayan international has long been among Erik ten Hag’s top summer transfer targets as he looks to improve his options in central midfield, but so far United have been unwilling to meet PSG’s £51m asking price.
Negotiations are continuing, with Sky Sports reporting that United are exploring both potential loan and permanent deals for Ugarte before the summer window slams shut for business on Friday, August 30 at 11pm BST.

Chelsea seal £44.5m Joao Felix signing after medical
Now Chelsea are also said to have wrapped up the signing of Joao Felix, with only an official announcement left to come.
More details on the financial aspects of the deal have been confirmed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
He says Chelsea will be paying £44.5m with no add-ons, but Atletico have apparently inserted a sell-on clause into the agreement.
Felix apparently passed his medical in London earlier this afternoon before signing a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge until 2030 that includes the option for a further 12 months.
The report adds that the Portuguese international, 24, will fit into Chelsea’s existing wage structure with considerable performance-related bonuses.

Conor Gallagher flying to Spain to finally join Atletico Madrid
Conor Gallagher is flying out to Spain this evening in order to finally complete his long-awaited transfer to Atletico Madrid.
A £35.8m deal for the England midfielder to head to LaLiga was agreed earlier in August, only to be left hanging in the balance after a £34.5m transfer to take Spain Under-21 forward Samu Omorodion in the opposite direction collapsed at the 11th hour.
Atletico needed such a sale to complete the signing of Gallagher having splashed out £81.5m to get Julian Alvarez from Manchester City and subsequently entered into talks with Chelsea over a shock return to Stamford Bridge for former loanee Joao Felix instead.
Gallagher had flown back to the UK and returned to Cobham while negotiations between the clubs continued, with an agreement in principle for Felix finally struck on Monday night.
The Portuguese has undergone his medical today and will now sign a six-year deal with Chelsea that includes the option for a further 12 months beyond that.
David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Gallagher is finally scheduled to return to Madrid tonight to complete his move at long last, having already agreed personal terms and passed a medical weeks ago.

Mohamadou Kante set for West Ham medical
West Ham are set to continue their busy summer transfer push by signing a player named Kante - but not the one you might think.
The Hammers were last month said to have a verbal agreement to bring former Leicester and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo back to the Premier League from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.
However, such a move never materialised and West Ham bolstered their midfield instead with the signing of World Cup winner Guido Rodriguez as they also continue talks this week with PSG over Carlos Soler.
Now they are evidently planning for the future in the middle of the park, with a deal agreed to sign 18-year-old Mohamadou Kante from French second-tier side Paris FC.
He is expected to undergo a medical and could be loaned back to Paris. West Ham see him as more of an academy signing at this stage.

Raheem Sterling's fears grow after squad snub
Raheem Sterling fears he may never play for Chelsea again after his surprise squad snub over the weekend.
The Blues are trying to trim their bloated squad after another summer of splashing out on promising youngsters, and Sterling appears to be on the chopping block after manager Enzo Maresca ommitted him from the first matchday squad of the season.
Sterling's £325,000 per week wages are proving a problem, though, with Juventus reportedly already rejecting the chance to do a deal and a move to Saudi of no interest to the player.
The Guardian reports that Sterling could find himself in limbo come September 1.
