Almost nothing in Terraria can be done without ores. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to craft tools, gear, weapons, and many other things necessary for survival. As we progress through the game, we notice that our ores are steadily growing stronger, more useful, and more expensive as well. Currently, there are 13 tiers of ores present in the game, encompassing 21 types of ores. From weakest to strongest, we’re going to list them all and explain them! Let’s see what are the tires of ores in Terraria.
Tier 1: Copper and tin ore
Tier 2 : Iron and lead ore
Copper and tin are followed by iron and lead ore. Those tier 2 ores are slightly better when it comes to their properties. Iron and lead ore can be found on the surface, underground, and in the caverns. Like the previous two ores, iron and lead can be slime drops as well.
Tier 3: Silver and tungsten ore
Tier 3 Terraria ores are silver and tungsten. They can be found underground, in the caverns, on the Floating Islands, and very rarely on the surface. Tungsten and silver-level equipment and tools are slightly better than tools made out of previous ores.
Tier 4: Gold and platinum ore
Gold and platinum ore are found like previous ores, underground, in the caverns, on the Floating Islands, and sometimes on the surface as well. Even though gold and platinum are very valuable in real life, they are not used to craft currency in Terraria. However, gold is used to create crowns and thrones.
Tier 5: Meteorite ore
Meteorite is a somewhat rare Tier 5 ore that can only be found in the meteorite crash biomes that are generated during the course of the game based on specific conditions. When you come into contact with meteorite blocks there’s a chance you will be affected by a Burning debuff. Meteorite ore is however safe to mine even if you don’t come prepared for the Meteorite block.
Tier 6: Demonite and Crimtane ore
Our next tier 6 Terraria ores can be found in usable quantities only when dropped from bosses as they appear in small quantities in their respective worlds. Demonite can be primarily found in the worlds that contain Corruption; you can farm Demonite with bombs; however, if you plan on getting Demonite in significant quantities, you can only get it from Eater of Worlds and Eye of Cthulhu bosses.
The same goes for Crimtane as well, Crimtane naturally appears only in worlds that contain Crimson but in large quantities, it can only be acquired after defeating Brain of Cthulhu and Eye of Cthulhu bosses.
Tier 7: Obsidian ore
Obsidian is created when lava and water come into contact. It is a somewhat rare ore to come across, so if you plan on using it in any larger quantities, you will have to generate it yourself, which usually does not require too much effort, only caution. Obsidian is used to create Hellstone bars, as it doesn’t have its own corresponding bar.
Tier 8: Hellstone ore
Hellstone is Tier 8 ore found in Terraria it is the strongest pre-Hardmode ore that can be found throughout the world. This ore is exclusive to The Underworld and you cannot mine it with anything weaker than Nightmare or Deathbringer Pickaxe. Mining Hellstone can be dangerous since it releases half-tile of lava on contact but the risk is worth taking since Hellstone items are among the most powerful when it comes to pre-Hardmode.
Tier 9: Cobalt and palladium ore
Tier 9 ores, cobalt, and palladium are the weakest Hardmode ores that can spawn in the Terrarira world. They can be found in underground biomes as well as caverns. Cobalt and palladium cannot be mined with explosives, and there is a small chance to loot them from crates.
Tier 10: Mythril and Orichalcum Ore
Tier 10 ores, Mythril, and Orichalcum are generated in the caverns after an adequate number of Demon/Crimson Altars has been destroyed. Both Mythril and Orichalcum are considered somewhat rare ores and require above-average quality of gear to mine.
Tier 11: Adamantite and titanium ore
Both adamantite and titanium ore are the strongest ore that can spawn after the destruction of Altars. They are used to craft extremely powerful gear. It’s important to note that the need for high-end mining equipment can be avoided, at least at first since there’s a good chance that both adamantite and titanium can be looted from crates. Both ores can be found in the caverns, corresponding to lava depths.
Tier 12: Chlorophyte ore
Chlorophyte Ore is tier 12 ore and the second strongest ore that can be found in the game. Chlorophyte is created when mud blocks and jungle grass blocks come into contact in the underground jungle biome. To mine Chlorophyte ore, you will need to defeat all mechanical bosses since mining Chlorophyte calls for at least a Pickaxe Axe or equivalent drill, Drax.
Chlorophyte-rich area functions the same as Crimson and Corruption biomes as it tends to spread to nearby blocks. That mechanic is somewhat useful as it allows for artificial Chlorophyte farms to be created.
Tier 13 : Luminite ore
The highest tier Terraria Ore is Luminite Ore. Luminite ore cannot be detected by using various potions and items, it cannot be smelted in a furnace, it doesn’t have an equivalent ore of equal strength, and you can mine it with any pickaxe at all. What’s the catch? The catch is, it only drops from Moon Lord, but it’s totally worth it since Luminite Ore is used to craft the most powerful endgame items. Luminite ore does not, however, have its own special set of armor and weapons like all other ores.
